Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
1. Martin Luther was a false teacher, an antisemitic, a persecutor and a murderer.
2. John Calvin was a false teacher, a tyrant, a persecutor and a murderer.
Both of these non-gentle men were at the forefront of a new belief after about 1,500 of Christian orthodoxy concerning whether or not a believer in Christ who had become born again could be refused entry into the Kingdom of Heaven by falling from grace. This doctrine is called ‘once saved (kept) always saved‘ or ‘eternal security of the believer’ or ‘perseverance of the saints.’ Let’s take a look at the fruit of these two men who many today revere and follow.
It seems Calvin studied the writings of the Catholic Bishop of Hippo, Augustine, much more so than those of Martin Luther, as he continually praised Augustine’s work with numerous references and quotations. Augustine’s writings, some assert, were greatly influenced by his earlier following of the Manichaeans (who followed in footsteps of the Gnostics, an early Christian heretical sect), who believed that all physical matter was totally evil, spiritual things were good, and the universe was locked in an eternal battle between those two opposing forces. The Manichaeans, who were followers of a self-styled prophet named Manes who had proclaimed himself to be the paraclete promised in John 14:16, also taught that man did not have freewill, and that people were absolutely predestined to either salvation or destruction.
Calvin’s authority in Geneva, Switzerland was practically uncontested during his final years. Initially, Luther and Calvin had mutual respect for each other. However, a doctrinal conflict later developed between Luther and Calvin on the interpretation of the Eucharist.
The following is John Calvin’s influence in the reign of terror in Geneva:
In 1536, Calvin proposed “a confession of faith” for the Genevans. In March 1537, Anabaptists (those who rejected infant baptism and believed that believers should consist only of saved and baptized believers, which were violently persecuted by Calvinists, Lutherans, and Catholics) were banished. In April 1537, at Calvins’s request, city officials were commanded to go from house to house to ensure that the inhabitants subscribe to Calvin’s Confession of faith. On October 30,1537, there was a final attempt to obtain a confession of faith from all who had not given one. On November 12, 1537, district by district, all those who had not made the confession of faith were then ordered to leave the city. In February 1545 – “Freckles” Dunanat died under torture without admitting to the crime of spreading a plague. His dead body was then dragged to the middle of town and burned. In 1545, following the incident with Dunant, several more men and women were apprehended who had “made a pact with the devil.” In March 7, 1545, two women were executed by being burned at the stake, presumably for the crime of spreading a plague. Calvin himself interceded to apparently have them executed quickly after additional time in prison. The Council followed his directive and urged the executioner to “be more diligent in cutting off the hands of malefactors.” In 1545 there were more executions under the crime of spreading a plague. The torturers carefully watched to prevent death. The means of death varied to include decapitation. Most of the tortured refused to confess, while some committed suicide in their cells to avoid torture, in which afterward the rest were handcuffed. After that one woman threw herself through a window. In 1545, Calvin had the magistrates seize Belot, an Anabaptist who was against against infant baptism, for stating that the Old Testament was abolished by the New. Belot was subsequently chained and tortured. In May 16, 1545, the last execution concerning the plaque outbreak occurred, bringing the total dead at least 7 men and 24 women. A letter from Calvin himself attests to 15 of these women being burned at the stake. It seems Calvin’s only concern was that the plague had not come to his house. In April 1546, Ami Perrin was put on trial for refusing to testify against several friends who were guilty of having danced. She was incarcerated for refusal to testify. On November 22, 1546, Calvin drew up a list of names inappropriate for baptism, insisting a name appear in the Bible, or it was inappropriate. On February 13, 1547, Calvin wrote to the man who would preside over the burning of Michael Servetus, writing: “For if he [Michael Servetus came, as far as my authority goes, I would not let him leave alive." On June 23, 1547, Several women were tried for having danced, one of which was Ami Perrin. On September 23, 1547, Francois Favre was prosecuted for having said that Calvin had proclaimed himself bishop of Geneva. Favre, Perrin, and his wife were again imprisoned. On September 27, 1548, Calvin reported his brother's wife to the consistory on SUSPICION of adultery. On October 16-18, 1548, Anne, Calvin's sister-in-law was freed, but had to kneel and ask forgiveness from both her husband and Mr. Calvin. On October, 1551, Hierome Bolsec was imprisoned for his opposition to predestination and was immediately interrogated. On December 23, 1551, Bolsec was sentenced to banishment on penalty of a public whipping if he returned. In 1552, the city council declaired that Calvin's Instituteswere above criticism. In the Spring of 1553, proofs against Michael Servetus were gathered in Geneva by Calvin's entourage. In April, 1553, Catholics were provided the evidence against Servetus, and Servetus was interrogated, but escaped. On August 13, 1553, Servetus arrived in Geneva and Calvin had him arrested and imprisoned. On September 15, 1553, fromprison Servetus writes a letter to the Council complaining that Calvin was deliberately prolonging his stay in horrible prison conditions in which he says he was being eaten alive by insects and didn't have any suitable clean or mended clothes to wear. The official charges against Servetus was the denial of the Trinity and the rejection of infant baptism. On October 27, 1553, after refusing to confess, Servetus is burned alive at the stake. In February, 1555, elections were favorable to Calvin. A riot ensued on May 16, 1555, and Perrin, who was a leader of the opposition faction, seized the baton, which symbolized the office of Syndic, giving the appearance of a coup d'etat. Perrin, along with his associate Philibert Berthelier, then fled. After the May 16 riot, Calvin called for repression. On June 3, 1555, the guilty are judged in absentia and Perrinis condemned to have his right hand cut off, which was the hand with which he grabbed the baton. He and his accomplices were condemned to decapitation, in which then the heads and Perrin's hand were to be nailed up in public and their bodies cut into four quarters. Also, the brothers Comparet received the sentence of decapitation, and their bodies were also to be quartered. All who didn't flee were executed. Claude Galloys and Girard Thomas were put in like unto a pillory in two different parts of town. Galloys had also received a sentence of having to carry a torch and ask for mercy. Berthelier's brother, Francois-Daniel, was also a victims of Calvin's repression. Mr. Calvin had justified the severity of the sentences. On March, 1556, those who broke measures barring the mixing of men and women were subsequently subjected to public humiliation in the collar, which was like unto a pillary. On December 31, 1556, Jacques Lampereur was imprisoned for making statements against edicts proposed on fornications, arguing that under the law of grace, it would be judaizingtocondemn adulterers to death. On January, 1557, Calvin's sister-in-law is imprisoned for the charge of having committed adultery. In October, 1568, two men were executed for sorcery after Calvin exhorted to pursue sorcerers in order to remove all of them from the earth. In 1568, a sorcerer admits his guilt under the torture of having his feet burned, but later recants his admission, and is banished forever from Geneva.
At least 38 people were executed during Calvin's time in Geneva, some being burned alive, while others were decapitated and quartered afterward. Most were tortured first, and many more were imprisoned and tortured, the great majority of which were people accused of sorcery for spreading the Plague. At least two men were sentenced for little more than a public denunciation of Calvin.
When Servetus came to Geneva, Calvin had him arrested. Although it seems that Calvin favored burning his opponents to death, he actually asked for Servetus to be beheaded. His plea was discarded, and they slowly and painfully burned Servetus to death.
Calvin went to Servetus, and according to Calvin, Servetushumbly asked his pardon. But Calvin declined with these words, “Think rather of crying for mercy to God Whom you have blasphemed.”
When someone said to Servetus: “Confess your crime, and God will have mercy on your soul.” Servetusreplied: “I am not guilty; I have not merited death.” And before witnesses he publicly confessed Christ as Savior and invoked God for pardon, asked God to pardon his accusers.
During Servetus' trial, Calvin wrote: "I hope that the verdict will call for the death penalty."
From the time that Calvin had him arrested on August 14th, until his condemnation, Servetusspentthe remaining days of his life: " ... in an atrocious dungeon with no light or heat, little food, and no sanitary facilities."
While being tormented by the flames, in which they placed half green wood at his feet and a wreathstrewn with sulphur on his head used to prolong his agony, Servetuscried out with a loud voice, “Jesus Christ, You Son of the eternal God, have mercy upon me!” It took 3o long torturous minutes to render his body lifeless.
Calvin collected money from Servetus’ property for the expenses incurred in his prosecution, and went on to write a book to justify himself called, Defence of the Orthodox Faith in the Sacred Trinity.
In the book Calvin called Servetus: “detestable infidel,” “rabid magician,” “great pest,” “vomit,” “obscene dog,” “stupid,” and “ferocious beast.”
“Honor, glory, and riches shall be the reward of your pains; but above all, do not fail to rid the country of those scoundrels, who stir up the people to revolt against us. Such monsters should be exterminated, as I have exterminated Michael Servetus the Spaniard.”
Calvin also wrote: “Whoever shall now contend that it is unjust to put heretics and blasphemers to death will knowingly and willingly incur their very guilt. This is not laid down on human authority; it is God who speaks and prescribes a perpetual rule for his Church. It is not in vain that he banishes all those human affections which soften our hearts; that he commands paternal love and all the benevolent feelings between brothers, relations, and friends to cease; in a word, that he almost deprives men of their nature in order that nothing may hinder their holy zeal. Why is so implacable a severity exacted but that we may know that God is defrauded of his honor, unless the piety that is due to him be preferred to all human duties, and that when his glory is to be asserted, humanity must be almost obliterated from our memories?”
Just three months after Calvin published his justification for murdering whom he disagreed theologicaly with, Sebastian Castellion, a professor of Greek Literature from nearby Basle, wrote a pamphlet against such persecutions and murders titled, “Whether Heretics Should be Persecuted.”
Calvin answered his pamphlet this way: “A new heresy has been discovered,” he said. “We must stamp out this burst of hell-fire before it spreads over the surface of the earth.... Freedom of conscience is a doctrine of the devil.... Better to have a tyrant, however cruel, than permit everyone to do what he pleases.”
Calvin, wanting to destroy Castellion, wrote a tract called, “Calumnies of a Rapscallion,” charging Castellion a thief, rascal, and blasphemer. The tract ends with, “May God destroy you, Satan!
When Pierre Ameaux complained about Calvin's reluctant to ordain Genevans, preferring to choose pastors from French immigrants who supported Calvin's program of reform, Calvin took it as an attack on his authority as a minister and persuaded the city council to require Ameaux to walk through the town dressed in a hair shirt and begging for mercy in the public squares. Jacques Gruet was implicated in an incident in which someone had placed a placard in one of the city's churches, reading: "When too much has been endured revenge is taken." Calvin himslf consented to the torture and beheading of Gruet. He was also accused of colluding in a French plot to invade the city.
But what were the so-called crimes of Servetus? He wrote against baby baptism, and the so-called 'trinity' explanation of God.
There is no record of baby baptism found in the entire Word of God.
The apostles, Servetus said, “did not hold the trinity or three persons...but men in later times added this.”
About the age of 21 Servetus wrote a book, On the Errors of the Trinity. He contended that the Trinity was not Biblical, but was instead an ungodly idea that came from Greek philosophers. For publishing this book he was condemned to be burned by the Catholic Church, along with his books. He fled this persecution and ended up becoming a physician, where he discovered or intuited the correct flow of blood and oxygenation through the lungs, 85 years before William Harvey of England introduced this fact.
Here is what Servetus wrote about God:
“I do not separate Christ from God more than a voice from the speaker or a beam from the sun. Christ is the voice of the speaker. He and the Father are the same thing, as the beam and the light, are the same light.”
“And because his Spirit was wholly God, he is called God, and he is called man on account of his flesh.”
“It is a surprising wonder that God has taken for Himself the body of Christ in order to make His special dwelling.”
“There is therefore a tremendous mystery in the fact that God may be united with man and the man with God.”
“God has revealed Himself to us, making Himself outwardly visible through the Word, yet internally perceptible through the spirit. Though He remains a great mystery in either case, He is yet such that humanity may see God Himself and posessHim. God was previously not visible, but now we shall see Him with His face unveiled, and, so long as we open the gate and step upon the road, we shall gaze upon Him as He shines in ourselves. It is time that we open that gate and this path of light....” (Preamble to Restoration of Christianity).
“There is nothing greater, reader, than to recognize that God has been manifested as substance, and that His divine nature has been truly communicated to mankind. It is in Christ alone that we shall fully apprehend the manifestation of God Himself through the Word” (Preamble to Restoration of Christianity).
“In Christ there is not some portion of God, but the whole totality of God, the whole fulfillment of the Word and the spirit” (Restoration of Christianity, 105).
Here is the what the bible teaches about God:
Colossians 2:9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10 and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;
Colossians 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell
Hebrews 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. 5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6 And again, when he bringethin the firstbegotteninto the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. 7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. 8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. 10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. 13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
6 Jesus saithuntohim, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: 33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

It seems to me that many of those who strongly believe against ‘Calvanism’ are willing to lay down their lives for their belief, while some of those who feel strongly in favor of their belief in ‘Calvanism’ are willing to kill you for their beliefs.
I believe people like the concept of eternal security because they love iniquity instead of the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom from above to learn to hate sin and depart from it. All who love the fruit thereof will eat of it, for the Lord will judge a man according to his works. – 777denny
1John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Dear Danny,
You just sent a comment to my blog asking me to read some of your posts. You did this a couple of weeks ago. I read your posts when you first asked me to do so, and have written a reply to you about them in the comment section of my post entitled “When it is God who promotes a man, his legacy and honour will endure til the end of the age”. Please read my reply, and let me know what you think.
Many thanks,

Martin Luther did not believe in ‘eternal security’.
He believed that the believer could turn his back on faith and be lost.
I’m a Lutheran and believe that faith can be lost.
theoldadam,
I indeed can find Martin Luther seemingly teaching against the doctrine of OSAS, but then I find these quotes and more information about this evil man:
“God does not work salvation for fictitious sinners. Be a sinner and sin vigorously…. Do not for a moment imagine that this life is the abiding place of justice; sin must be committed.”
“Sin cannot tear you away from him [Christ], even though you commit adultery a hundred times a day and commit as many murders.”

In the latter, Luther called for the stabbing and slaying of peasant rebels which triggered the death of an estimated 100,000 human beings. These rebels were not only Christians but were mostly slaughtered after their surrender to the German princes. Nor did Luther apologize for his treatise even after world criticism. In his response to his critics in “An Open Letter on the Harsh Book,” Luther reiterated his venom: “Therefore, as I wrote then so I write now; Let no one have mercy on the obstinate, hardened, blinded peasants who refuse to listen to reason; but let everyone, as he is able, strike, hew, stab, and slay, as though among mad dogs, put to flight, and led astray by these peasants, so that peace and safety may be maintained.” In all these harsh treatises, Luther provided an abundance of Biblical passages to justify his attack on his enemies. And, or course (sarcastically speaking), his actions were always through Christian “love” of his enemies, as he audaciously wrote: “The merciless punishment of the wicked is not being carried out just to punish the wicked and make them atone for the evil desires that are in their blood, but to protect the righteous and to maintain peace and safety. And beyond all doubt, these are precious works of mercy, love, and kindness. . .”
On the canonical level, a particular target of Martin Luther’s ire was the New Testament epistle of James. The epistles assertion that “faith without works is also dead” absolutely rubbed Martin the wrong way (as it had Paul before him). Luther commented that James was “a right strawy epistle” and questioned whether a book of such inferior worth even belonged in the New Testament.
On a more practical level, Luther’s disfavor had more catastrophic consequences. His ultimate condemnation of the Peasants’ Revolt ultimately lead to the loss of 100,000 lives. He came to support the execution of Anabaptists who he felt disrupted the public order and refused to stay in banishment.
And in a sentiment with far-reaching consequences, Martin Luther came to advocate severe repression for the Jewish population in Germany, offering suggestions to: “Burn down their synagogues, forbid all that I enumerated earlier, force them to work, and deal harshly with them, as Moses did in the wilderness, laying three thousand lest the whole people perish.”

Since I mentioned the year 1500 above, there was a reason why I did. It was Martin Luther who “invented” the false doctrine of “Once saved, always saved”, when in Romans 3:28 he added the word “alone” to his German translation of Holy Scripture. That verse then read, “…a man is justified by faith alone”. This action on his part was an embarrassment to the other reformers, and so you will not find that little word “alone” in Romans 3:28 in the King James or any other Protestant Bible except for Luther’s.

Below are some quotes from the founder of Protestant Christianity Martin Luther, which shows the heresy he taught of Once Saved Always Saved:
“Be a sinner and sin boldly, but believe and rejoice in Christ even more boldly… No sin will separate us from the Lamb, even though we commit fornication and murder a thousand times a day.”
Martin Luther, letter to Melanchthon, August 1, 1521
“…you must bear a true and not a fictitious sin. God does not save people who are only fictitious sinners.
– Martin Luther: August 1st, 1521
“Be a sinner and sin boldly, but believe and rejoice in Christ even more boldly for he is victorious over sin, death, and the world. As long as we are here in this world we have to sin. This life is not a dwelling place of righteousness”
– Martin Luther: August 1st, 1521
“No sin will separate us from the lamb, even though we commit fornication and murder a thousand times a day.”
– Martin Luther: August 1st, 1521
“Whenever the devil harasses you, seek the company of men or drink more, or joke and talk nonsense, or do some other merry thing. Sometimes we must drink more, sport, recreate ourselves, and even sin a little to spite the devil, so that we leave him no place for troubling our consciences with trifles. We are conquered if we try too conscientiously not to sin at all. So when the devil says to you: do not drink, answer him: I will drink, and right freely, just because you tell me not to.”
– Martin Luther: August 1st, 1521
“The imputation of righteousness we need very much, because we are far from perfect. As long as we have this body, sin will dwell in our flesh. Then, too, we sometimes drive away the holy spirit; we fall into sin, like Peter, David, and other holy men. Nevertheless we may always take recourse to this fact, that our sins are covered, and that God will not lay them to our charge. Sin is not held against us for Christ’s sake.”
– Martin Luther: August 1st, 1521
“your sin cannot cast you into hell”
– Martin Luther: August 1st, 1521
“No sin can harm me”
– Martin Luther: August 1st, 1521
Here are the puported beliefs of Lutherans:
1. Lutherans practice INFANT BAPTISM and “baptized persons are believed to receive the gift of regeneration from the Holy Ghost”. (Mead’s Handbook of Denominations, 11th Ed. pg 177)
While baptizing an infant or an adult, the Lutheran minister makes this statement: “Almighty God….Who hath begotten thee again of water and the Holy Ghost, and hath forgiven thee all thy sin, strengthen thee with His grace unto life everlasting.” In his prayer to God during the baptism of an infant, the Lutheran minister says: “Almighty and Most Merciful God…we thank Thee…that Thou has granted to this child the new birth in Holy Baptism, and received him as Thy child and heir to Thy kingdom.” This doctrine of baptismal regeneration has caused multitudes to trust a ritual rather than Christ, to be confused as to what a true Christian is, and to die with a false hope of salvation.
The International Dictionary of the Christian Church (pg. 613) states:
“Baptism is regarded as the water of REGENERATION, a means by which the new birth is effected, especially in infants.” Lutheran pg. 2
2. Lutherans have retained a Roman Catholic – like MASS.
Mead says (pg. 77) “The two sacraments, baptism and the Lord’s supper, are not merely signs or memorials, but channels through which God bestows forgiving and empowering grace upon humankind.” The body and blood of Christ are believed to be present “in, with and under” the bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper and are received sacramentally and supernaturally. The Lord’s supper is not a mere memorial meal, but was instituted by Christ for the FORGIVENESS OF SINS…in the bread and wine of the Holy Supper the body and blood of Christ Himself are PRESENT.” (ibid pg 613).
3. Lutheran Church services tend to be RITUALISTIC often retaining much of the liturgy of the Catholic Church. Along with the formal, liturgical style of worship with prayer books, special robed clergy, the mass-type communion is translated from the Latin into the language of the people. Congregational singing of hymns is stressed and the preaching of sermons based upon the exposition of Scripture is placed in the center of the worship. (Theological students who plan to become ministers are required to learn Hebrew and Greek.)
4. The Lutheran Churches ordain WOMEN as clergy and ministers. As of 1993, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) branch of Lutheranism had 1,358 ordained women clergy.
5. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the largest Lutheran group in America, is a member of the National Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches and is very ECUMENICAL in its approach to cooperation with other religious faiths.
(The LCMS…Missouri Synod and the WELS…Wisconsin are NOT members of the NCC and WCC).
Recall the NCC states that different faiths can go to heaven whether they go thru Jesus Christ or not…and at the recent WCC conference prayer was led to the goddess Sophia…Mother God. The dues of these member churches goes to the NCC and WCC to support these things.
A survey published in 1970 revealed that 51% of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (one of the more conservative Lutheran groups) denominational leaders and professors believed the Bible is the Word of God.
6. Regarding Predestination, Lutheranism teaches that God has ELECTED certain men for salvation in Christ Jesus before the beginning of the world, but Lutheranism does not teach a REPROBATION to HELL.
7. The Lutheran Churches promote the use of the newer Bible versions and reject KJV Onlyism.
8. The Lutheran church does not oppose Abortion and does not oppose Homosexuality. In 1970 the ELCA stated “a woman or couple may decide to seek an abortion.” They also stated regarding homosexuality, “Homosexuality is viewed as a departure from the heterosexual structure of God’s Creation, but homosexuals are entitled to ‘understanding and Justice’ in church and community.
(NOTE: as ALWAYS, I usually do not agree with other aspects or many other doctrines of the referenced sites I use)
Denny,
Thanks for your response.
I’ll just mention a few things.
Luther was all about the grace of God and the work of Christ in our life.
That is why he wrote ALONE in the margin of scripture.
because when we try and add anything at all to the work of Christ with our performance or good deeds or sincerity, we mess up everthing. It’s like a single drop of poison in a glass od pure water.
The peasants were rioting and raping and murdering nuns and priests and burning down churches and destroying towns. Luther told the authorities that they should be stopped by any means.
If another Christian was killing people in your town, what would you do?
The ELCA has definitely gone down the wrong road. Liberal leadersship and a liberal seminary has seen to that. It is a real shame.
When Luther said to Melancthon “Sin boldly”, he didn’t mean it literally. He was trying to say to Melancthon that look, you ARE A REAL SINNER ALREADY…WE ALL ARE. Be aware of that fact and own up to it, but the grace of Christ is more powerful than any sin we could ever do. Realize that and trust in what Christ has done for you.
Lutheranism teaches what is in the Bible. Election is Biblical that is why we teach it.
We teach all men are headed to hell, without the gospel. Out of that Christ chooses some (Romans 9)
Traditional Lutheranism got it right. The new fangled liberal Lutheranism is way off base.
Thanks, Denny.
theoldman,
I was refferring to what Luther said AFTER 100,000 people were killed, many seemingly AFTER they were in German authority custody.
{…Luther called for the stabbing and slaying of peasant rebels which triggered the death of an estimated 100,000 human beings. As far as ‘election’ is concerned, here seems to be what Luther wrote about it:
“Be a sinner and sin boldly, but believe and rejoice in Christ even more boldly for he is victorious over sin, death, and the world. As long as we are here in this world we have to sin. This life is not a dwelling place of righteousness”
– Martin Luther: August 1st, 1521

I believe that God knew beforehand who would CHOOSE Him, and with that knowledge preordained that those who do so would be conformed to the image of the Son of God. Therefore, I believe the heresy of God electing certain people for eternal life and certain people for damnation, and the heresy of the teaching of eternal security for the believer, both are based upon a false Gospel based upon a false Christ.
Here is what Jesus Christ, the Son of God had to say about people CHOOSING God for themselves:
1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. 2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. 3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. 4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. 5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. 6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. (Rev. 3:1-6)
42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? 43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. 45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. 49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? (Luke 12:42-49)
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. (John 6:66)
21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it. (Luke 8:21)
10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. 11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. (Rev. 22:10-15)
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. (Mat 7:12-27)
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. 20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. 21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. 22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. 23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. 24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? 27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. 28 Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee. 29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake, 30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting. (Luke 18:18-30
17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. (Mat 15:17-20)
22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. 23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 27 No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. 28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation. 30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit. (Mark 3:22-30)
15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. 16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. 17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. 18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. 19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. 20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: 21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. 22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: 23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? 24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. 25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) 26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. (Luke 19:15-26)
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. 31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. 33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (Mat 12:30-37)
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. 30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (Mat 5:27-30)
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. 21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. (Matthew 5:20-22)
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:29)
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. 23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. 28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. 29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. (Matt. 18:21-35)
25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. (John 12:25,26)
1Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. 7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. 9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. (Matthew 25:1-13)
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? 26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels. (Luke 9:23-26)
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Rev 21:7,8) – NOTICE that the there is the UNBELIEVING and the rest of whom were those who were former believers in Christ
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. 32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. (Luke 15:11-32)
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. 6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate. 7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. 8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive; 9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. 10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. 11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. (Rev 2:4-11)
5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. 6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. 8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? 10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. 11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. 16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. 17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. 18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have. (Luke 8:5-18)
51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. (John 8:51)
34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. (John 8:34,35)
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. (John 14:23-24)
Notice that Jesus talked about being born again, and then He talked about OBEYING Him AFTER on one has been born of God. Jesus and Paul, whom Christ called to preach His Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven to the Gentiles, along with the other writers of the New Testament, warn again and again for Christians to be on the lookout for false teachers and preachers teaching against sound doctrine. How can one be telling lies about the Kingdom of Heaven and enter into it? All liars will have their day in the lake of fire. What most Christians don’t seem to want to acknowledge is that AFTER one has been born again, they MUST FOLLOW the Holy Spirit unto GOOD WORKS, or they, too, will perish in the lake of fire. Only those who are LED (meaning we MUST follow) are the children of God. But Christ warned the churches again and again to OVERCOME, and only AFTER they did this would they receive the crown of everlasting life. We have Christ in us, the HOPE of glory. Jesus IS eternal life and NOTHING can seperate us from the love of God – except our own FREE WILL.

Did Martin Luther really believe in eternal security? I see the above quotes that claims that he did, but his own commentaries contradict that. Here is what Martin Luther said:
“Verse 4, “Ye are fallen from grace.” That means you are no longer in the kingdom or condition of grace. When a person on board ship falls into the sea and is drowned it makes no difference from which end or side of the ship he falls into the water. Those who fall from grace perish no matter how they go about it. … The words, “Ye are fallen from grace,” must not be taken lightly. They are important. To fall from grace means to lose the atonement, the forgiveness of sins, the righteousness, liberty, and life which Jesus has merited for us by His death and resurrection. To lose the grace of God means to gain the wrath and judgment of God, death, the bondage of the devil, and everlasting condemnation.” (Martin Luther, Commentary on Galatians, 5:4). ”
I’m sure confused now. Maybe Martin Luther is like most Calvinists that talk out of both sides of their mouths. A Calvinists will tell you that you cannot practice any sin and claim to be saved and yet out of the other side of their mouth they allow for people to live in gross sins for a period of time that can last as long as the person breathes but only cannot die in that state and still be saved?????????????????????
Cody,
I believe your analysis is correct. On the one hand we have the verse above and maybe a few more from Mr. Martin that seem to explicitly say that a Christian can fall from grace. And then we have a bunch of quotes from him that seem to say just the opposite.
The point is that he DID say the things that many Calvinists and non-Calvinist believe are some of the roots of the ‘once saved always saved’ Movement, irregardless of the few instances that he seemed to contradict this belief.
I still believe the following scriptures applies to the three unholy men (John Calvin, Martin Luther and Augustine) that have perverted Christianity to the core for hundreds of years. Remember that ALL believed that baptising babies (which is not found in scripture) was essencial for salvation, Luther and Calvin both persecuting those that baptised adults after they believed in Christ.
Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt treebringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Lest we forget how unholy and bizarre Mr. Martin was, let’s remember these quotes of his:
Denny,
You misread Luther and misunderstand Luther.
The mere fact that you do not realize what he was trying to do in that quote to Melancthon (Sin Boldly) tells me that.
That you would defend rapists and murderers and anarchists (the ones Luther wanted to stop)tells me that your understanding of history is a bit off as well.
I do not agree with everything that Luther said. He said some really stupid things (especially about the Jews) but he said some terrific thing as well and he understood the gospel better than any theologian I have ever heard or read.
You and others can spit on him all you like.
It’s not about him, but about the gospel, anyway.
You will never find a staunch defender of the gospel than in Martin Luther.
theoldaman,
The mere fact that you cannot seem to understand that Martin Luther was not a true Christian, but instead a deranged imposter, shows me that you know nothing whatsoever about the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.
One who hates the Jews, hates true Christians (anabaptists), tells people to murder people, and distorts the Gospel of Jesus Christ is working for the kingdom of Satan, NOT the kingdom of God.
2 John 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Romans 11:17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; 18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. 19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. 20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: 21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. 22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. 23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. 24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
Romans 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. 15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
(As always, I probably disagree with much of what the links I give otherwise believe or disbelieve)
Denny,
You have judged Martin Luther’s salvation and have thereby heaped condemnation upon yourself.
Jesus told us not to judge, lest we be judged.
Your self-righteousness is going to land you in a lot of hot water if your not careful.
Theoldadam,
Can you prove in writing that Martin Luther has been taken out-of-context? Just saying that he was or just telling us your version of what was behind his words isn’t sufficient.
Your understanding of “judge not, lest ye be judged” needs to be interpreted in light of that passage. Judging in that passage has to do with us judging others and them judging us back. This isn’t where God judges us for judging another in that passage. In fact, Scripture tells us to make righteous judgments elsewhere. The point of those verses is that if I am going to judge you for a sin then I better not be guilty of the same. Even the apostle Paul made a judgment against the man that was committing incest with his step mom in 1st Cor. 5. If the apostle Paul was secretly doing the same sin then he should have kept his mouth shut but the fact that he wasn’t committing such a sin was a just cause to point out that man’s sin and condemn it. Paul didn’t need the beam taking out of his own eye in that passage as he clearly did not have it.
Question, would it be wrong for me to say “Hitler is in hell today because he never trusted Christ?” I believe you would saying “no” to that agreeing with me that he was certainly a lost man. My judgment is no different than Denny’s here. You might not agree with him and maybe I don’t either but that doesn’t mean that he cannot make his observations and tell you what he believes Scripture teaches. Just agree to disagree.
Don’t take it so personal that someone like Denny believes that Martin Luther is not saved. If you believe he is saved then that is all that should count to you. Not worth getting so upset over.
Whos said I was “so upset”?
All I said was that to judge another’s salvation is to heap judgment upon oneself.
I was just quoting our dear Lord. If you can find another (higher) authority on the subject…then jhave at it.
Only an imbicile would look at the totality of Martin Luther’s work and come up with the notion that he believed in eternal security, or that he advocated our going out and sining.
theoldman,
Imbecile:Noun-A person of subnormal intelligence.
Verb-Having a mental age of 3 to 7 years old.
Which of these do you think I am?
And what did your Mr. Luther say about an imbecile?
Idiots, the lame, the blind, the dumb, are men in whom the devils have established themselves: and all the physicians who heal these infirmities, as though they proceeded from natural causes, are ignorant blockheads.
So, do you agree with your Mr. Luther here above?
Here are more quotes from Mr. Luther about those he thought were of subnormal intelligence:
Therefore the blind Jews are truly stupid fools…
-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)
Now just behold these miserable, blind, and senseless people.
-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)
Let’s see what this fellow, Mr. Luther, said about ‘peace.’
Nothing good ever comes of violence.
Peace if possible, truth at all costs.
Peace is more important than all justice; and peace was not made for the sake of justice, but justice for the sake of peace.
People must have righteous principals in the first, and then they will not fail to perform virtuous actions.
Now let’s see what this same Luther wrote about violence:

Cody,
Thank you for your defense of the truth. Let all praise, honor and glory go to God.

theoldadam said:
“Whos said I was “so upset”?”
Then you said in your last paragraph:
“Only an imbicile would look at the totality of Martin Luther’s work and come up with the notion that he believed in eternal security, or that he advocated our going out and sining.”
“Only an imbicile”…….:YIKES!!! So you are not angry when you have to repeatedly jump on Denny for seeing things from a different perspective and you call him an imbecile???
You misunderstood the “judge not” verse quoted by Jesus. How do you view Matthew 5:22 then that ends with:
“but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire”?????
You are clearly angry.
Again, I might not agree with everything Denny said, but I am not bashing him for it as you are, and I cannot find him bashing you either. I choose not to disagree here openly with him because I cannot refute what he is saying about those quotes and it is pointless to say that he misunderstands him when I cannot supply any proof that he is. Calling him an imbecile with no proof for your claims shows that you have an angry heart.
The difference between Denny and you comes down to Denny supplying quote after quote and you simply saying he is wrong and an imbecile with no proof (anger). I simply asked you to supply the proof that Martin Luther was being taken out-of-context by Denny and you failed to supply the facts. I wasn’t challenging you but hoping you did have the actual proof that Martin Luther meant something else from what Denny quoted here.
It’s a given that when people run out of arguments that they have to get personal with people. When someone gets nasty then it often shows immaturity on that person’s part where they have to be right and those that do not agree with them must be imbecile. This need to insult others is due to pride and anger issues because they feel they are so intelligent and those around them are imbeciles. Just remember, Martin Luther was only a man and not worth getting so upset over to defend. Don’t worry, I do not think Martin Luther is losing any sleep of whether or not you are here to defend him. I believe Martin Luther was a saved man but do you see me getting irate with Denny over it?? Denny is free to believe whatever he wants to believe and you can never convince someone differently with insults and lack of proof.
Agree to disagree oldadam as that is the best remedy for an angry heart.
When someone is so smug in their self-righteousness as to judge another’s salvation…there’s a problem.
You guys clearly have a problem.
I pray that it gets worked out of you somehow.
This won’t mean a thing to you, because you are the only Christians in the world that have it going on.
OK, thank you!
I need to clarify something to you as you clearly missed it. You said that there is a problem when someone judges another persons salvation and now you have me as judging Martin Luther’s salvation. Hmmm, I believe I said that I believe he is a saved man. I never said anything about Martin Luther and whether what he said was good or bad. Now who is being smug in their self-righteousness?
I think it is you in your anger that has made a hasty judgment now against me too. I’m glad that you assume that we are the only Christians that have it going on. Thank you for the compliment!!!
Question for you oldadam……..Is a man in heaven or hell that professed in this life his devotion to atheism?? If you say, “I don’t know?” then have you trusted Christ? If a man deliberately rejected Christ his entire life and died then where would he spend eternity?? If you say, “I don’t know??” then have you trusted Christ? Don’t kid me, I know that your answer would hopefully be the biblical one that a man that has not trusted Christ is under the wrath of God. You judge too so don’t condemn Denny here. This is where “judge not lest ye be judged” comes into play.
One last time, how are the quotes that Denny gave here incorrect?? I didn’t ask your opinion. I didn’t ask what you heard in the past. Can you supply concrete proof that he is wrong? You are the one that stormed in here bashing him and those that point out your anger and pride issues.
I can certainly use those prayers that you promised us but be sure to remove that beam in your own eye first. Wow! You are such an angry person.
theoldman,
Actually, I have not concluded where Mr. Martin Luther is currently staying. But you have falsey accused me of doing so. I will have to concur with Cody and his(?) thoughts. You have not even given me examples of your beliefs to refute mine. You have, however, falsely accused me of something. I believe you are just overflowing with who you really are. Jesus told us that out of the abundance of the heart one speaks. Your words speak volumes as to who you really are. You are trying to justify a murderer and a hatemongering antisemite. Martin Luther and the Lutherans persecuted Anabaptists, who were part of the true body of Christ. Looks to me that you are doing the same thing here as they did. Like I said before, it is the false church that always persecutes the real body of Christ. The false church is full of hate and malice, and seeks to try to destroy the true church through demagoguery and persecution. The true church uses facts and is guided by the Holy Spirit, while the false church is guided by the flesh.

Cody,
Even though you have disagreed with me on some things, you have answered correctly. You have not insulted me nor persecuted me. Thank you for sticking up for the truth and for godly principles.

Simon,
I take it that you are a teenager judging what you just said? Either a teenager or someone that has yet to grow up would throw out something like that.
You do have me wondering why you used the words “gay” and “queer” when this is a Christian site. You might have to go somewhere else to have those perverse needs met of yours.
Denny, you must have done a good job because it is a known fact that when someone has no arguments then the only thing they can do is deliver insults. Obviously this man can only insult with extreme sexual perversion as that is clearly on his mind.
I would delete his and my comment as it will take your topic in a direction that it doesn’t need to go at all.
Cody,
Thanks for coming to the defense of the Truth, and of civility. I have deleted that persons’ disgusting and immature comment as spam, but I would like to leave yours, since I like it , and think maybe it can help someone else stand up and speak out for what is right.
Thanks again,
777denny
Hello Denny,
You addressed me as Simon by accident (EDITORS NOTE: correction has been made), no worries though. I personally enjoy reading disagreements as long as they have some thought behind it without the sarcasm. Clearly Simon had no argument and felt that insulting your site with perverse worse was his divinely (false god) appointed duty. I personally believe in eternal security and have debated it much but there is no excuse for whatever side of the theological fence you are on to ever insult or belittle someone. Simon probably believes in eternal security but his words and attitude does not represent the rest of us who believe that grace teaches us to deny ALL manners of ungodliness and that our mouths shouldn’t spring forth both bitter and sweet waters.
Thank you Denny,
Cody
Cody,
I believe that the following is the gospel of Jesus Christ:
Other Verses Confirming Eternal Security
1. They are already seated in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus confirming that their salvation is finished and secure, and also that they are perfect in Christ already. (Eph 1:3, 2:6)
2. The Holy Spirit seals them as a mark of ownership and security until the day of redemption. Even grieving the Holy Spirit doesn’t cause Him to leave (Eph 1:13-14, 4:30)
3. The promise of God is that He would never leave or forsake his children. Likewise the Holy Spirit is promised to be with true believers forever. (Heb 13:5, John 14:16)
4. The penalty for all sin has been forever settled through the perfect and finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Rom 3:23-26, 4:23-5:2, 5:6-9)
5. They have been born again and they cannot be unborn, nor can the new creation perish because they have been born from imperishable seed. (! Pet 1:23)
6. The new creation is totally secure because it has been hid with Christ in God until Jesus comes in glory and his sons are revealed. (Col 3:1-4)
7. If a Christian’s life and work are completely burnt up at the judgement seat of Christ (that is, there was nothing that he did that was based upon the foundation of Jesus Christ) he himself is still saved yet with no rewards.(1 Cor 3: 15)
8. God who began the good work in them has promised that he will carry it on until the day when Jesus returns. They are called to ‘work out’, not ‘work for’ their salvation. (Phil 1:6, 2:12-13)
9. They stand before God clothed in the righteousness of Christ, not in their own righteousness. (2 Cor 5:21,Rom 5:19-21)
10. God, knowing everything that would happen, chose them before the foundation of the world and as such they are holy and blameless before Him. (Eph 1:4)
11. They are kept by the power of God through faith, and not through the efforts or the works of the one who is saved. (1 Pet 1:5)
12. Their inheritance is assured and is imperishable, kept in heaven for them. (1 Pet 1:2-4)
13. Jesus is able to save them completely because He lives to make intercession for them and He cannot die. (Heb 7:24-25)
14. Even though all their righteousness is as filthy rags, they have been saved (past tense, completed event) by grace (the unmerited favor of God) and not by their own works, so that even in the ages to come they may marvel at the surpassing riches of his grace! (Eph 2:6-9)
15. They are God the Father’s irrevocable gift to the Son and he never changes his mind about His gifts and callings. (John 17:6-7, Rom 11:29)
16. God has promised to keep them from falling and to present them faultless before Himself. (Jude 24, 1 Thes 5:23-24, 1 Cor 1:8-9 Note: Even though Paul had much to say about the gross sins that were happening in the Corinthian church, he still gave them the promise that God is faithful and would present them blameless on the day of Christ Jesus!)
