Obama’s Mentor, Racist Reverend Wright, is Back!

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama’s former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, just can’t keep his big mouth shut. So, he openeth it wide to keep Americans focused on him, to the detriment of Mr. Obama.

The reverend Wright went on friendly territory with PBS host Bill Moyers and claimed that his racist, anti-Semitic, anti-American inflammatory statements from his sermons were taken out of context and his critics wanted to “communicate” that he is “unpatriotic” and “un-American.”

“I think they wanted to communicate that I am unpatriotic, that I am un-American, that I am filled with hate speech, that I have a cult at Trinity United Church of Christ,” the flamboyant preacher told “Bill Moyers’ Journal.” “And by the way, guess who goes to his church, hint, hint, hint?”

But he added, “They know nothing about the church. They know nothing about our prison ministry. They know nothing about our food ministry. They know nothing about our senior citizens home. They know nothing about all we try to do as a church and have tried to do.”

Well, let’s take a look at what else his church is all about.

This is taken directly from Trinity United Church of Christ’s website in the “Talking Points section, and it written by Barack Obama’s mentor, Jeremiah Wright:

“…The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theology that started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology.

“Black theology is one of the many theologies in the Americas that became popular during the liberation theology movement. They include Hispanic theology, Native American theology, Asian theology and Womanist theology.”

Since Mr. Wright gives credit to Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology, it behooves us to examine just what Dr. Cone teaches through his books.

Here seems to be the MAIN idea behind this theology, as explained by Dr. Cone himself:

“Christ is black therefore not because of some cultural or psychological need of black people, but because and only because Christ really enters into our world where the poor were despised and the black are, disclosing that he is with them enduring humiliation and pain and transforming oppressed slaves into liberating servants.”

“In the New Testament, Jesus is not for all, but for the oppressed, the poor and unwanted of society, and against oppressors … Either God is for black people in their fight for liberation and against the white oppressors, or he is not.”

Think that’s bad enough? Cone goes even further with this new strain of the ‘Gospel of Jesus Christ’:

“Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community … Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.”

No, Mr. Wright, we did NOT take your comments out of context.

When Mr. Wright was asked about Obama’s comments toward him in the ‘race speech’ in Philadelphia, Wright responded, “He’s a politician, I’m a pastor. We speak to two different audiences. And he says what he has to say as a politician. I say what I have to say as a pastor. But they’re two different worlds.”

I get the sense that Wright is trying to tell us that Mr. Obama had to say those negative things about him to further his political ambitions, but that he really didn’t mean those things.

“What happened in Philadelphia where he had to respond to the sound bytes, he responded as a politician.”

I think my sense of the situation has been affirmed by Mr. Wright himself.

Wright defending his fiery sermons said, “the persons who have heard the entire sermon understand the communication perfectly … those who are doing that are communicating exactly what they want to do, which is to paint me as some sort of fanatic.”

As far as talking politics with Mr. Obama, Wright said, “He goes out as a politician and says what he has to say as a politician. I continue to be a pastor who speaks to the people of God about the things of God.”

Wright said he has never heard Obama repeat any his controversial statements as his own opinion. “No, no, no. Absolutely not,” Wright said.

Wright also said that he is accustomed to being “at odds with the establishment,” but that the response to his sermons was “very, very unsettling.”

“When something is taken like a sound bite for a political purpose and constantly over and over again, looped in the face of the public. That’s not a failure to communicate,” Wright bemoaned.

“The blowing up of sermons preached 15, seven, six years ago and now becoming a media event, not the full sermon, but the snippets from the sermon … having made me the target of hatred, yes, that is something very new,” Wright said.

“I felt it was unfair. I felt it was unjust. I felt it was untrue. I felt — for those who were doing that — were doing it for some very devious reasons,” he said.

Well, here is the text of the sermon which is from ABC NEWS: “From ‘The Day of Jerusalem’s Fall’ 9/16/2001

“Rev. Jeremiah Wright:

“I heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday, did anybody else see him or hear him? He was on Fox News, this is a white man, and he was upsetting the Fox News commentators to no end. He pointed out, did you see him John, a white man, and he pointed out, an ambassador, that what Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Mohammed was in fact true, America’s chickens…are coming home to roost. We took this country by terror, away from the Sioux, the Apache, the Arowak, the Comanche, the Arapahoe, the Navajo. Terrorism. We took Africans from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism. We bombed Granada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel. We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenagers and toddlers, pregnant mothers, and hardworking fathers. We bombed Qaddafi’s home and killed his child. Blessed are they who bash your children’s head against a rock. We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to payback for the attack on our embassy, killed hundreds of hardworking people, mothers and fathers who left home to go that day not knowing that they would never get back home. We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye. Kids playing in the playground, mothers picking up children from school, civilians, not soldiers, people just trying to make it day by day.”

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and Black South Africans and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.

“The British government failed, the Russian government failed, the Japanese government failed, the German government failed, and the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian descent fairly, she failed. She put them on reservations. When it came to treating her citizens of Japanese decent fairly, she failed. She put them in internment prison camps. When it came to treating her citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. The government put them in chains. She put them on slave quarters, put them on auction blocks, put them in cotton fields, put them in inferior schools, put them in sub-standard housing, put them in scientific experiments, put them in the lowest paying jobs, put them outside the equal protection of the law, kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education, and locked them into positions of hopelessness and helplessness. The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three strike law, and then wants us to sing God Bless America…no, no, no

“Not God bless America, God damn America. That’s in the Bible, for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating her citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme. The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent. Think about this, think about this.

“For every one Oprah, a billionaire, you’ve got 5 million blacks who out of work. For every one Colin Powell, a millionaire, you’ve got 10 million blacks who cannot read. For every one Condoskeeza Rice, you’ve got 1 million in prison. For every one Tiger Woods, who needs to get beat, at the Masters, with his cap, blazin’ hips playing on a course that discriminates against women. God has his way of bringing you up short when you get to big for your cap, blazin britches. For every one Tiger Woods, we got 10,000 black kids who will never see a golf course. No mention here of the Democratic party and their 170 years of rape, pillage, oppression and total wickedness toward blacks, or the Civil War which Republican Lincoln fought to finally free blacks from the grip of the Democratic party. Isn’t that when the “chickens” came home to roost? Also, absolutely NO mention of ANYTHING America has done that is good. No mention of ANYTHING America has done to try and right the wrongs it has done. He can ONLY seem to see the bad, and NONE of the good about America. That, in my opinion, is a totally TWISTED and WARPED definition of America that borders on EVIL intent to PURPOSEFULLY omit good toward an end to indoctrinate people to believe his skewed reality.

Mr. Wright is scheduled to speak on the role of faith in the public square in a presentation entitled, The African American Religious Experience; Theology & Practice, at a National Press Club breakfast on April 28th.
